Southport to Pittwater / 380nm / 16 Dec - 20 Dec 2018
5 days / OFFSHORE PASSAGE / 2 CREW POSITIONS AVAILABLE
The ocean passage from Southport to Pittwater takes us 30nm - 80nm out into the Tasman Sea as we aim to catch the southerly current that flows at 3.5 knots at its peak on our trip south to the stunning inner harbour anchorage of Pittwater, 15nm north of Sydney. This offshore passage runs down the New South Wales coast past the most easterly point of Australia and can throw any sort of weather our way.
You can fly into either Brisbane or Gold Coast Airport on Sunday 16th December in time to join us for a crew dinner ashore. On the morning of Monday 17th December we will depart Southport early and head south. The wind direction and sea state will govern how far we go offshore, as we sail non-stop down the east coast of Australia, heading east of the busy shipping channel. Our voyage to Pittwater will take 2-3 days depending on weather and we'll berth at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on arrival, where Ocean Gem will remain until the start of the annual Pittwater to Paradise Race on the 2nd January 2019. You should plan to depart Sydney Airport on the evening of Thursday 20th December or sometime on the Friday 21st. Accommodation is available onboard in Southport and Pittwater.
