Our recommended training partners, Above & Beyond Boating, have a range of fantastic courses. Before joining our offshore passages and races, all Ocean Sailing Expeditions crew must complete a Safety and Sea Survival Course. These self paced e-learning courses are structured to increase your knowledge of weather, navigation, communications and seamanship and to support your practical abilities.

SEA SAFETY & SURVIVAL course

The course delivers up-to-date information and current techniques for survival situations, including crew overboard emergencies and abandoning ship.

This e-learning course, in conjunction with the practical wet drills, constitutes a 2-day course under the World Sailing and Australian Sailing SSSC requirements for the offshore special regulations.

HF, MF, 27 MHZ & VHF RADIO COURSE

This online radio course allows you to learn everything you need to know about using Marine HF, 27 MHz, MF and VHF Radios at your own pace and wherever you like!

At the end of this online radio licence course, you will know how to call for help in an emergency, communicate with other vessels at sea and understand how to use various safety equipment you will find onboard our boats. This online course also prepares you to sit for your LROCP exam and obtain your radio licence.

RYA DAY SKIPPER SHORE BASED COURSE

This intermediate-level weather, navigation and passage planning course will introduce you to charting and navigation. You will learn how to plot a course, identify and avoid potential collisions, and use the onboard electronic and traditional navigation systems. If you are keen to develop your navigation skills as part of the trip, this course will be a perfect way to prepare for your trip, ready to put the skills into practice with us.

RYA COASTAL SKIPPER & YACHTMASTER THEORY COURSE

This is an advanced course in navigation and meteorology. With a strong emphasis on passage making, this e-learning course will build upon your existing knowledge and experience to prepare you for longer passages at sea. You will be trained to take a ‘Yachtmaster’ approach to plan and implement your boating adventures.
