Youth Sailing Scholarship Program
The Ocean Sailing Expeditions Youth Sailing Scholarship Program has been designed to introduce young people to ocean sailing expeditions and blue water passages. Our goal, (when we have spare capacity onboard) is to expose young people to offshore sailing at a young age and provide them with experiences and skills, that may help shape their future sporting and occupational choices. While its exciting to read about or watch ocean sailing online, the magic only happens when you experience it. We hope that removing barriers for young people helps provide opportunities they may not otherwise consider.
Who is it designed for;
Young people aged 13-18 years of age
Young people wanting to experience blue water sailing passages and expeditions
People who have faced adversity in life, or who want to develop self-confidence, teamwork and communication skills
The skills you will learn;
Working as part of a team to overcome the daily challenges of ship board life
Managing health and personal well being, to operate at a peak level of performance around the clock
Dealing effectively with different personalities, under a range of challenging conditions
Sail trimming, navigation, weather planning and yacht management
The confidence to face life’s challenges and overcome adversity
How do you join a passage or expedition?
Register below to join our pre-approved youth sailing crew list
Pack your crew gear bag with the recommended gear, so you are ready to go
Complete an online or classroom based Sea Survival Course
Make sure you have a current passport
We’ll contact you 2-3 weeks prior to an event, whenever we have excess capacity available and invite you to join the crew
If the dates don’t work for you, we’ll keep you on the shortlist for next time
What are the costs?
Your travel to and/or from the ports of arrival and departure
Your crew registration fee, which is discounted by 75% off the normal retail price e.g. an $7,750 passage will be discounted to $1,937.50 under the scholarship program
All meals and accomodation are provided onboard. Any meals ashore before departure, en-route and on arrival are also included in your registration fee
